Walter, A lonely, widowed and withdrawn economics lecturer returns to New York to find two illegal immigrants – Tarek, a young Syrian musician and Zainab, his Senegalese girlfriend – living in his flat. Reluctantly, he lets them stay, and an unlikely friendship develops.
When Tarek is arrested and threatened with deportation, his beautiful widowed mother comes to stay. Walter's connection to this family in distress deepens and his narrow horizons expand.
A huge independent hit in the States, this beautifully observed film is a moving tale of connection in an increasingly isolated world.
